The Princess Royal visits UHI in Portree

On 30 September the Princess Royal opened UHI's newest building, a part of the West Highland College in Portree, and was welcomed by Mr John Laing, Deputy Lieutenant.

In his speech, Dr Michael Foxley, Chair of West Highland College UHI, thanked The Princess Royal for coming to Portree and everyone involved in achieving the build in such a short time. The building will allow a significant advance in the amount of tertiary education available to those living on Skye.

The College’s delivery in Portree now includes full time courses in Hairdressing; Professional Cookery; Art; Early Education and Childcare; Child, Health and Social Care, Administration; Construction and Access to Higher Education courses. A new business training unit for Business, Enterprise Solutions and Training – “BEST” – offers courses of particular interest to businesses and for continuous professional development. The College also continues to offer a range of Highers, employability programmes, leisure classes and courses for those with profound and complex needs. As a part of the University of the Highlands and Islands, the College also offers an enhanced range of Higher Education and Degree course delivered using a combination of video conferencing, and virtual learning environments and personal tutor support.
