On Monday 8 July Her Royal Highness Princess Anne visited Ullapool to inaugurate the International St Ayle's Skiffs World Championships and was received by Mrs Janet Bowen, Lord-Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty, incorporating Skye and Lochalsh.

The day was blessed with wonderful weather as the accompanying photographs below and in the gallery show.

Seen below Princess Anne is welcomed by Topher and Jan Dawson. Topher Dawson is Secretary of the Ullapool Coastal Rowing Club who hosted the event.

The Princess met children and cadets from the local Wing of the Air Cadets, went out by rib for a row past by all the participating crews, attended a reception in the marquee for rowers, funders, and members of the local community before being formally welcomed and invited to open the event.

Princess Anne spoke briefly in return noting the community involvement in the whole project and remarked that she would be a surprised if there wasn't another championships before too long!

Mrs Bowen will be revisiting the Championships later in the week at which point the website will be updated.
