Late entry - River Thames Jubilee Pageant

- 05/08/2012

This website reported the departure of the good skiff Ulla to represent the Lieutenancy area of Ross and Cromarty, Skye and Lochalsh, at the Diamond Jubilee River Pageant on the Thames, and nothing more has been heard until now.

The Ulla team actually produced a film and a slideshow which were beyond the ability of this webmaster to upload, but finally some pictures are available in the library through the link below, giving a wonderful record of the day, despite the weather.

The photos show the skiff, its launch, and a number of pageant views set against some well known London landmarks, as well as a few of the other rowing boats accompanying Ulla down the Thames and past Her Majesty The Queen.

Mrs Bowen, the Lord Lieutenant, said "Ulla did us all proud. Bearing in mind the distance involved and the size of our area we did very well to participate fully in this unique celebration. As one of the very few Lieutenancies with both an East and a West Coast it is no surprise that we have a long maritime tradition, and so it was very right that out part of the Highlands was at the pageant".

She went on to say "None of this could have happened (a) without the generous financial help that we have received from a variety of sponsors, willing to make sure that we were properly represented at the pageant, and (b) all those who gave their time and energy. Thank you to you all".
