On Friday 11 May 2012 Mrs Bowen, Lord Lieutenant for Ross and Cromarty, incorporating Skye and Lochalsh, hosted a tea party for 250 guests from within her area who in some way had been associated with youth work.

In her speech Mrs Bowen pointed out that there couldn't be a repeat of the party: Diamond Jubliee's only came along every 60 years, and went on to say:

"This Jubilee also gives me a chance, to stand so to speak in the Queen’s shoes, to host this Tea Party and to fulfil one of her roles, which is to recognise achievement and to support service.

"Possibly you may have wondered why you have been invited, and in passing it is wonderful to see such a splendid turnout. The reason is that you will have been involved in some way with service to young people, maybe in the past, maybe in the present and maybe with many years of service in front of you.

"It goes without saying that the young of today are our future, but possibly the pressure on our young people is greater than ever, and it gives me great pleasure in this small way to honour all of you who commit so much of your time to guiding, listening, sharing, encouraging, sometimes pushing, and generally equipping the young people of our communities for their adult lives."
