Blue Flash Challenge 2017

- 29/06/2017

Mrs Janet Bowen, Lord-Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty, Skye and Lochalsh, attended a number of events in Strathpeffer over the weekend of 24 and 25 June, in support of Blue Flash Challenge 2017.

The Blue Flash Challenge is an annual event run for charity by the veterans of the Fourth Royal Tank regiment. The colour blue was used to distinguish the Fourth from the other Tank Regiment, who used other colours.

The weekend comprised a number of events. These include a 24 hour endurance trek from Fort Augustus to Strathpeffer. Teams were entered from the Royal Tank Regiment, REME, veterans and Serco, amongst others. This was followed by a Shinty match between an all Army team and a scratch Caberfeidh team. In the evening Skipinish played at a ceilidh. Finally, on Sunday there was a moving Church Parade which took note of the fact that no less than four sons of the Strathpeffer area died in the First World War whilst serving in the Heavy Machine Gun Corps, which was the immediate predecessor to the Tank Corps. One family brought to the service the fiddle which their relative had taken to the trenches, and it was played again in public for the first time since then, a hundred years on.
