Mrs Janet Bowen, Lord-Lieutenant for Ross and Cromarty, Skye and Lochalsh attended a ceremony in Portree on Friday 18 November to award Mrs Jesse Donaldson with a British Empire Medal.

Before making the award Mrs Bowen said:

I am delighted to be able to present Mrs Donaldson with the BEM, but first I must let you all know why!

The short citation reads “Volunteer, General Advisor, Skye and Lochalsh Citizens Advice Bureau, - and for Voluntary Service to the community of the Isle of Skye”

That only skims the surface of Mrs Donaldson’s Activities!

Before working with the CAB Mrs Donaldson was Head Teacher at Carbost Primary School and after retiring continued her association with the school running the Badminton and Shinty clubs.

She joined the CAB in 2004. Mrs Donaldson is very professional with an excellent sense of humour and gift of making clients feel at ease. The feedback from clients is always positive indicating how helpful and thoughtful she is in their times of need, those times are unique to each client.

In addition to her exceptional advising abilities she is at the forefront of promoting the services of the Bureau in the community and is also heavily involved in their fundraising events.

Mrs Donaldson is a remarkable fund raiser - in various capacities, - with various different charities.

She has also been a member of the Minginish Community Council and amongst the many responsibilities with them she organised the
Annual Christmas Dinner and Strawberry Tea for the old people.

To add to all of that I am told she makes cakes - to die for!
