Battle of the Pairc

Battle of the Pairc

- 27/08/2015

On Friday 7 August, Mrs Janet Bowen, Lord-Lieutenant for Ross and Cromarty called Clans Mackenzie and Macdonald to make peace following the Battle of the Pairc in about 1485.

The clans met in Strathpeffer, Mrs Bowen called for peace (which was hardly necessary bearing in mind the extensive mixed marriages between the clans!), the Chieftains of the two clans exchanged swords, and the clan supporters (waving flags and chanting) gave their assent.

The occasion was a part of the five yearly Clan Mackenzie gathering.

The last photograph shows kilts to a new style (!) modelled during the Clan Gathering.
